Moving from deputy to PM — what genuinely surprised you in year one?

I made the transition 18 months ago. What surprised me most: (1) how political the partner dynamics are — nothing prepared me for the interpersonal complexity of a GP partnership, (2) how differently the team relates to you overnight — suddenly you're management, not a colleague, (3) how much of the job is managing up not down. Also: QOF is genuinely stressful in a way I didn't appreciate from the outside. What did others find hardest in the first year?
