## Medicines Management Policy

### 1. Medicines Storage

- All medicines stored in locked, temperature-controlled cabinets

- Fridge temperatures monitored and logged daily (2–8°C)

- Stock checked monthly for expiry dates

- Vaccines stored in dedicated medicines fridge only

### 2. Controlled Drugs

- CD register maintained in line with the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001

- CD cupboard keys held by nominated CD Accountable Officer

- Weekly balance checks documented

- Annual audit of CD records

### 3. Prescription Management

- Blank prescriptions stored securely and numbered

- Prescriptions never pre-signed

- Prescription tracking log maintained

- Lost/stolen prescriptions reported to NHSBA immediately

### 4. Emergency Drugs

The practice maintains the following emergency drugs and equipment, checked [frequency]:

- Adrenaline (epinephrine) 1:1000 — anaphylaxis

- Aspirin 300mg — acute MI

- Glucagon — hypoglycaemia

- Oxygen — respiratory emergency

- Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

### 5. Prescribing Governance

- Repeat prescriptions reviewed at least annually per patient

- High-risk drug monitoring (methotrexate, lithium, anticoagulants) audited quarterly

- MHRA alerts actioned within agreed timescales

### 6. Disposal

Unused patient medicines returned for destruction via pharmacy or licensed waste contractor. Never disposed of in general or clinical waste.
